The Reviews

Review by: Douglas H
Personal Rating: 9/10

This is a beautiful player that I recently purchased after my samsung got stolen. I was looking for a player that wasn't too pricey, had decent storage capacity and great sounding audio quality.
After a bit of searching, I decided it was between the new ipod nano (video) or the creative zen 8gb. I thought about 16gb version, but for an extra ?80 i didn't think it was worth it (especially as it has expandable SD storage).
Having friends and family who all jump on the bandwagon and grab an iPod, I have played around with them extensively; as i'm not a particular fan of the iPods sound quality and hearing about the zen's good quality, I went for the zen. And i'm glad and disappointed at the same time, for several reasons.

The Good:
Brilliant sound quality, with 8 EQ presets and a custom 5 band eq to set.
Large, 16million colour TFT screen that is very sharp and clear.
Easy to use, customisable menu system.
A whole host of audio and player settings, which put the iPod to shame.
SD expansion slot, with support for SDHC (high capacity) which means that the player is almost infinitely expandable, with cards of up to 64Gig being released.
Drag and drop file compatibility.

The Bad:
Occasional freezing issues, meaning you have to make use of the reset switch.
Album art bug; occasionally you will be playing a song and it will show album art from a completely different artist.

In conclusion, a brilliant little player but not without it flaws. I would recommend serious consideration or this unit when buying your next PMP, at least in the near future when the bugs will most likely be ironed out!
